The Secret to Professional Success

Hey friends, welcome to my scent stories. Since you’re looking beautiful today, I’m going to share with you the secret to professional success today. I will be going over with you today 10 of the best office fragrances, in your workplace, will have you smelling better than everybody else.

This is a big deal, very important. Now, you may be thinking to yourself, “Well, secrets to professional success, man, that’s got to be like working hard, having willpower, intelligence, skills, all these things combining to make a successful person.” And I would say no, you Dingus. It’s fragrances, bro, that’s the secret.

1. Tom Ford Grey Vetiver

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver - best office fragrances

The first one is from Tom Ford: it’s Grey Vetiver. It’s so obvious, a classic kind of scent. Tom Ford Grey Vetiver profile with a modern twist works very well, has a great clean vetiver to it. It doesn’t have so much that earthiness or that smoke or that dirtiness that you can sometimes get with vetiver. No, it truly is a grey vetiver in the sense that it comes across very clean and sophisticated and has been washed clean of its sins.

Now, it’s not completely devoid of earthiness, I guess I should clarify. It’s just it doesn’t have that dirty aspect that can turn some people away. You also do have a little bit of citrus in there off the top, giving you a nice refreshing opening and helping, you know, hold your hand into that woodier dry down.

Grey Vetiver has been heralded and hailed as one of the best office fragrances, best work fragrances for men, ever since it came out. And that’s for a reason: it’s because it is one of the best office and work fragrances that’s available for men since it came out. So yeah, it is pricey, but you do get good quality for what you pay.

2. Issey Miyake L’eau D’Issey Wood & Wood

Issey Miyake L'eau D'Issey Wood & Wood

Let’s keep it Woody with L’eau D’Issey Pour Homme Wood & Wood from Issey Miyake. Now, this is going to be much more affordable than Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and not anywhere near as hyped. It still has a fragrance that has enough sophistication that will work extremely well in more formal situations, more business-oriented situations, but it has great versatility, usability, and it’s a very easy-to-pull-off fragrance.

It has a good amount of citrus off the top. The woods here are not actually as prominent as you would expect, with the name of the fragrance being “Wood & Wood” and having a wooden cap and everything like that. You would think it’s going to be just extremely wood-forward. It has bits of fresh sweet spice in there, actually kind of undertone of sweetness from the opening into the dry down. And I think it’s better—decidedly better—than it gets credit for because a lot of people kind of wrote that one-off. But as far as just being a very pleasant, easy-going office fragrances, this stuff works really well, and it doesn’t cost much.

3. Dolce & Gabbana The One Grey

Dolce & Gabbana The One Grey

Speaking of fragrances that don’t get a ton of hype or love, that I think are better than their reputation, Dolce & Gabbana The One Grey is up next. I think it’s actually one of, if not the most, versatile fragrances in the Dolce & Gabbana “The One” line because this is the type of scent you can wear anywhere.

Now, I didn’t say that this is one of the best office fragrances in “The One” line, so don’t take it as me saying that, because I don’t believe that for a second. Even though I like this a lot, it is not the best in the line—not close, actually—but it is perfect for the office, for work situations. It’s perfect.

It has that likability to it, which all of these do, where your common person, your common man, or common woman is going to think it smells great. Not only that, but it has freshness to it, a nice grapefruit in the opening, vetiver in the dry down. Is it a little bit like, you know, a fragrance that was made “paint by numbers” for office situations? Maybe to an extent, but I think it still smells awesome.

4. Giorgio Armani Code Colonia

Giorgio Armani Code Colonia

We move on to Giorgio Armani’s Code Colonia. It has been getting a little bit harder to find in the United States, but you can still find this with regularity at discounters as of when I’m filming this video. Bergamot, lavender, and tonka are some of the notes in the fragrance. Essentially, yeah, this is a fresher take on Armani Code.

So you pick that up right away when you smell this—that tonka, again, a good amount of it you pick up immediately. But this is not late-breaking news or anything: people love the smell of tonka, which is why if you look at popular men’s fragrances, it is everywhere and has been everywhere for a long time. So if you’re looking for something that’s going to be safe while still work-appropriate that could also potentially pull compliments, things like that, Code Colonia crushes it.

5. Creed Aventus Cologne

Creed Aventus Cologne

Alright, let’s go with Creed Aventus Cologne next. Yes, I would go Aventus Cologne instead of just straight Aventus, mainly just because it’s the fresher, easier-wearing take on that DNA. Now, that’s not to say you can’t wear Aventus because you could. You absolutely could. I mean, there’s a reason that it sells like it sells, and that’s because you can use it anywhere.

But Aventus Cologne is a little bit of lighter, a little bit fresher around the edges. It doesn’t quite have that birch, that smoke coming out potentially like the original Aventus does. Some people may say that takes away from the character of Aventus a little bit. If you have that viewpoint, I’m not going to argue against it.

Again, just going back to the best work fragrance or best office fragrances, the easiest one to pull off – Aventus Cologne over Aventus for me. You get vetiver in here, but in the opening, you get a very pleasant ginger-citrus combo. That sparkling opening really helps awaken your senses and also helps pull attention. Aventus Cologne, in a work setting, works like a charm.

6. Prada L’Homme

Prada L’Homme

Next, we started this off with Grey Vetiver, one of, if not, the most recommended office fragrances for men. This one has got to be, if not first, second. It’s kind of like 1B to Grey Vetiver’s 1A. The fragrance is Prada L’Homme.

Iris, neroli, and cedar make this perfect for a work fragrance. It’s very clean – soapy clean, kind of powdery as well, while still being fresh. Clean fragrances go a long way when you’re talking about work scents or office fragrances. It’s hard to offend people when you smell clean. If you’re wearing something that can come across dirty, funky, animalic, or whatever, it’s easy to offend people, especially those who are easily offended – which unfortunately, there’s usually a decent amount of those people wherever you work.

But if you smell clean, not too many people are going to complain about that.

7. Escentric Molecules Molecule 01

Escentric Molecules Molecule 01

The next one is Molecule 01 from Escentric Molecules. Now, this is different from everything else on this list. It’s very minimalistic. There is one note for the fragrance – ISO E Super (also called ISO Gamma Super).

It smells essentially like a light, fresh, cedar-like woody scent profile. Some people will actually say they can’t really smell much of anything from Molecule 01, while others will say, “Oh no, I smell it very clearly.” It depends on the person. Some people, as I said, might as well be spraying on water.

It is extremely versatile because some people aren’t even going to be able to smell it, and those who do will think, “Oh, that’s nice, it’s kind of a super pleasant, woody scent.” It has a nice freshness and really draws them in. A lot of people will use Molecule 01 to layer with other fragrances. They’ll wear it as a base and then spray other fragrances over the top. A very safe choice for the office fragrance and great for those who want a second-skin type fragrance.

8. Burberry Touch for Men

Burberry Touch for Men

Speaking of subtle and classy, the next one is Burberry Touch for Men. This one has violet, mandarin, musk, and white pepper in it. It’s a comforting scent – not too loud, very versatile, with a nice freshness to it. It’s pretty affordable from discounters as well.

Now, it’s not in its heyday anymore – that was years past. But it still works extremely well, especially in the office. It also has a bit of a soapy, linen-like vibe to it. Again, another scent in an office setting, nobody’s going to complain about. And if they do, they’re just terrible people.

9. Bottega Veneta Pour Homme

Bottega Veneta Pour Homme

Let’s go more masculine with this next one – Bottega Veneta Pour Homme. A little bit pricey, unfortunately. The entire Bottega Veneta line, especially in the United States, has never been widely available, especially at good prices from discounters. You can still find it, just not going to be cheap, cheap.

This one has pine, leather, and citrus. It comes across as more classically masculine than most of the fragrances here today. It has a throwback feel to it, reminiscent of fragrances from yesteryear, like the original Ralph Lauren Polo or Polo Green.

However, this one is more refined, a little smoother, more elegant – like a modern take on that style of scent. You’d think it’s going to be crazy strong, beast mode, hearkening back to the fragrances of the ’80s and ’70s. But no, it’s actually not as loud as you might think, which makes it very good for the office. It’s a perfect choice for a business scent.

10. Terre d’Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver

Terre d’Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver

Lastly, let’s end with Terre d’Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver. We started this off with vetiver, and we’re ending with vetiver – and not just vetiver, but intense vetiver. Realistically, you could go with just about any Terre d’Hermes, whichever one is your favorite.

So, of course, vetiver is one of the notes in this fragrance, along with woods and citrus, as you would expect from a Terre d’Hermes scent. Like pretty much all Terre d’Hermes fragrances, this is a great office fragrance. It’s one of those fragrances that will have you smelling like a million bucks.

Eau Intense Vetiver may be a little easier to pull off nowadays in the office than the original Terre d’Hermes. Not that the original is difficult in my opinion, but I’ve heard from many of you out there that Terre d’Hermes doesn’t work for you because of that slightly dirty aspect it has at the top – that mix of orange, flint, earthiness, and vetiver.

With Eau Intense Vetiver, a lot of that has been toned down, with more focus on the vetiver done in a cleaner way than the original Terre d’Hermes. That’s why Eau Intense Vetiver is the one I’m highlighting here. But again, if the original Terre d’Hermes works better for you or any other iteration, go with those. They’re all fantastic work fragrances.
